Figures trace to Alphabet's Q2 2026 results release, filed July 22, 2026 as Exhibit 99.1 (accession 0001652044-26-000066), with Q1 2026 baselines from the April 29 release (accession 0001652044-26-000043), both indexed and retrieved via Aether. Research, not investment advice.

Alphabet ($GOOGL) printed the growth quarter of the megacap season: consolidated revenue up 24 percent to $119.8 billion — a twelfth consecutive quarter of double-digit growth — with Google Cloud accelerating to 82 percent growth, at $24.8 billion, up from 63 percent growth just last quarter. Headline EPS of $9.11, up 294 percent, will dominate the coverage.

Read the whole exhibit, though, and this is really two filings in one: a demand story the bulls will quote, and a funding story that tells you what that demand costs. Alphabet — historically the most buyback-happy company on the exchange — repurchased zero dollars of stock this quarter, raised $49.6 billion in equity in June, issued $20.3 billion of senior notes, and ran $145.8 billion of investing outflows in six months.

The demand half

Google Services grew 15 percent to $94.5 billion: Search & other up 17 percent to $63.3 billion, YouTube ads up 13 percent to $11.1 billion, subscriptions, platforms and devices up 15 percent to $12.9 billion. Services operating income reached $39.5 billion.

Cloud is the acceleration story. Revenue of $24,768 million versus $13,624 million a year ago, driven — in the filing's words — by enterprise AI Solutions, enterprise AI Infrastructure and core GCP. Cloud operating income more than tripled to $8.8 billion from $2.8 billion, a segment margin around 36 percent. For scale: Cloud made more operating profit this quarter than it made revenue in Q1 2023-era quarters. Total operating income rose 30 percent to $40.8 billion with the consolidated margin up 2 points to 34 percent.

One asterisk belongs on the EPS line: net income "up 298 percent" includes a $98.0 billion net gain in other income, primarily unrealized gains on equity securities — a mark-to-market swing, not operating profit. The 34 percent operating margin is the durable number; $9.11 is not a run-rate.

The funding half

The same exhibit discloses how the AI build-out is being financed, and the shape is new for Alphabet. In June the company issued Class A and Class C stock plus 6.25% mandatory convertible preferred stock for $49.6 billion of net proceeds — earmarked, per the filing, for "capital expenditures to scale AI infrastructure and global compute." It also stood up a $40 billion at-the-market program (unused so far, intended for employee equity tax obligations) and issued $20.3 billion of senior unsecured notes in the quarter. Long-term debt now stands at $98.2 billion, roughly double a year ago, and total assets crossed $922 billion.

Meanwhile the cash-flow statement shows stock repurchases of $0 for the quarter and the half — against $13.2 billion and $28.3 billion in the same periods last year — while first-half investing activities consumed $145.8 billion. Alphabet ended the quarter with $55.9 billion of cash, and the board declared the first dividends on the new preferred.

How to read it

The bull case and its bill arrived in the same document. Cloud at 82 percent growth with a 36 percent segment margin is the strongest AI-monetization evidence any hyperscaler has filed. But a company that generated the industry's most famous buyback stream just switched to issuing equity and doubling its debt to fund compute — which means management believes the build-out's returns beat its own stock, and shareholders are now financing that bet through dilution instead of receiving repurchases. Whether that trade pays depends on Cloud margins holding as the capacity lands.

The numbers, the trajectory and the fair-value math are on the Alphabet valuation dashboard, updated as filings land.
